Waymo Expands Autonomous Vehicle Testing to Seattle and Denver

Alphabet's autonomous vehicle subsidiary Waymo is accelerating its U.S. expansion with new test markets in Seattle and Denver. The MOVE follows years of data collection in challenging urban environments, preparing the technology for complex scenarios like heavy rainfall and construction zones.

Initial deployments will feature a limited fleet of electric vehicles—including Jaguar I-Pace SUVs and Zeekr RT vans—operated with safety drivers onboard. Denver could see commercial service as early as 2024, while Seattle's timeline remains contingent on regulatory approvals.

Waymo currently operates commercial robotaxi services in five major cities, completing thousands of weekly paid trips. The company recently secured its first autonomous testing permit in New York City, signaling broader ambitions for urban mobility transformation.
